Championing Women in Automotive

International Women’s Day (IWD) is an important time to reflect on and celebrate the achievements of women in every corner of the automotive industry. This year’s theme, #accelerateaction, resonates powerfully with me. It reminds me of how far we have come and how much further we need to go. In that spirit, I want to share the story of Accelerate Automotive, how we have grown into a leader in the independent auto repair sector, how we champion women in automotive, past and present and how those women have shaped our success.

International Women’s Day (IWD) 6 March 2025.

The Early Days of Accelerate Automotive

When we started Accelerate Automotive, our goal was not just to fix cars. We wanted to elevate the entire experience as independent auto repair shop owners with quality workmanship and excellent service. From the start, an inclusive approach that values all perspectives proved essential.

I am proud that women have been integral to our growth from the beginning. They have taken on responsibilities in marketing, customer relations, strategic development, and day-to-day workshop management. The women of Accelerate Automotive have helped us evolve far beyond the original vision.

Breaking Barriers in an Evolving Industry

Historically, the automotive sector has been male-dominated, and although it is changing, misconceptions and barriers remain. I have personally witnessed how women use intuition, empathy, and collaboration to excel in roles once considered off-limits.

Our success is not just a feel-good story but a business advantage. As the Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association (AAAA) points out, diverse voices lead to fresher ideas and stronger outcomes. Women bring different perspectives, leadership styles, and attention to detail, which blend seamlessly with the automotive focus on precision, safety, and quality.

Fostering an Inclusive Culture

A cornerstone of success at Accelerate Automotive is fostering an inclusive culture. We do not just hire women; we ensure all employees feel valued through career development, mentoring, and recognising challenges that some women still face in this industry.

By providing training, confidence-building opportunities, and clear networking pathways, we have seen lower turnover rates and higher productivity. Our culture also attracts talented individuals who share our values.

The Power of Collaboration with Colleagues

I am often asked about the dynamics between men and women in our workforce. Our male team members have been some of our biggest champions. Instead of viewing women’s progress as a threat, they see it as an opportunity for innovation and new perspectives.

By combining our strengths in problem-solving and relationship-building, we have created a team culture that truly resonates with our audience. Our success illustrates what is possible when we recognise and celebrate the value women bring.

Driving Change in the Independent Auto Repair Shop Industry

The auto repair industry is ready for modernisation, and at Accelerate Automotive, we see ourselves as part of that transformation. We offer exceptional mechanical services, integrate digital platforms, prioritise customer education, and commit to transparency in every interaction.

Women on our team have been instrumental in designing social media campaigns that demystify car maintenance and encourage everyone to feel more confident. Trust grows, and engagement deepens when people see themselves represented in our relatable content.

Inspiring the Next Generation

One of my greatest rewards at Accelerate Automotive is seeing the ripple effect on those who might never have considered a career in auto repair. Visibility matters. Having women in leadership and technical roles shows younger generations that the automotive sector welcomes and empowers them with endless opportunities.

Women’s Connection Circles

As part of my ongoing commitment to supporting women in automotive, I serve on the AAAA Women Steering Committee, which works to improve recruitment, retention, and career development for women in the automotive aftermarket. Alongside industry leaders from AAAA, GPC Pacific, Bapcor, Amotiv, Mycar, Penrite, and ACIA, we recently launched Connection Circles, trusted spaces where women can share experiences, hone skills, and build crucial networks. These circles highlight the power of collective support and collaboration, driving meaningful transformation in our industry.

Looking Ahead: #accelerateaction

As we celebrate International Women’s Day with the call to #accelerateaction, I feel proud of how far we have come at Accelerate Automotive. Yet, I also acknowledge our continuing responsibility to learn, innovate, and challenge the status quo. Systemic barriers and everyday biases remain, and change will not happen overnight.

However, this motivates our determination to broaden recruitment, training, and mentorship. We want any woman passionate about the automotive industry to know that we can pursue a long and fulfilling career.

At the core of this journey is a true partnership between everyone. Our experiences show that results can be extraordinary when we unite behind a vision of quality, inclusivity, and progress. By appreciating diverse strengths and perspectives, we build a workplace culture that stands out and sets a path for future generations.

I hope you find inspiration in our story at Accelerate Automotive on this International Women's Day. Let us all embrace #accelerateaction, champion the women around us, build collaborative partnerships, and shape a future in the independent aftermarket that reflects our combined talent, passion, and drive.

Your Next Step: Get Involved Through the AAAA

If you are ready to embrace #accelerateaction, I encourage you to follow the Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association (AAAA) for opportunities to get involved in efforts to increase female representation in the automotive aftermarket. From industry events to networking sessions, such as AutoCare2025. The AAAA regularly hosts and promotes initiatives where individuals and organisations can unite behind a shared goal: a dynamic, inclusive automotive space that recognises and amplifies the strengths of all. By lending your voice, time, or resources, you become part of a powerful movement to inspire more women to enter, thrive, and lead in the industry.
